General Info
Chinese Medicine Dermatology is a specialized branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine focused on skin health. It views the skin as a reflection of internal balance and uses herbal formulas to support that harmony. CMD Skin Solutions products are inspired by these principles and crafted to bring comfort and balance through safe, natural plant medicine.
Every CMD Skin Solutions topical product is handcrafted in Fort Collins, Colorado. We craft all products in small batches to ensure quality and freshness. Our herbal formulas are compounded here using a concentrated granule form of water-based extracts of raw herbs (plants and some minerals). These concentrated granules are imported by a Colorado-owned company who sources them from the GMP-certified, fully licensed, state-approved herbal pharmaceutical company that supplies the top TCM hospitals in China and around the world.
Yes. All herbal ingredients are pharmaceutical grade and screened for identity, purity, and safety. Our herbs are imported by US-owned suppliers and are third-party tested for pesticides, heavy metals, and microbes.
Yes, our products can complement existing care plans. If you are currently under a physician’s or veterinarian’s supervision, we recommend consulting them before adding any new product.

People Products & Skin Questions
CMD products are created to support the most common inflammatory skin concerns such as acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and general irritation (and more). Our formulas are made to soothe discomfort, promote balance, and restore confidence in your skin.
Yes. CMD products never contain steroids, petroleum-based ingredients, synthetic fragrances, artificial dyes, added parabens, or harsh preservatives. Our products are 100% natural, GMO free, organic.
A portion of anything applied to the skin can be absorbed to a degree. That is why ingredient quality matters. All CMD products are formulated with ingredients chosen for safety and skin compatibility.
Some products provide immediate comfort. Others require a full skin regeneration cycle of about four weeks or longer. Chronic conditions may take several months of consistent use. If there is no improvement after 6–8 weeks, professional guidance is recommended.
Our external herbal skincare products are safe to use, but we always recommend consulting a qualified healthcare provider before introducing new skincare during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If pregnant or nursing, we recommend taking herbal supplements only when under the direct supervision of a licensed practitioner of Chinese Medicine. Some herbal supplements should not be taken during pregnancy - any formula that is inappropriate to consume during pregnancy will have a clear warning on the product page and label that the product is contraindicated during pregnancy.
Your skin is an organ that reflects what is happening internally. While topical products can bring comfort and relief, chronic skin conditions often require internal support. This is why CMD emphasizes pairing topical care with internal herbal support whenever possible.
Some people with mild skin problems find relief with topical products alone. If your skin concerns are chronic, recurring, or unresponsive to topical care, internal herbal formulas may offer additional support.
Each of our herbal supplements has a general dosing guideline listed on the label as well as in the product description on this website. But additional information about dosing can be found in this video.
Yes, some of our supplements have an active version and a Stabilize version. Your skin needs extra support when there is active inflammation. For as long as there is redness, itching, swelling, or lesions, take the Active formula (this could be one month to 6+ months). Once your skin is calm and appears normal, switch to the companion formula labeled Stabilize for 2 more months to promote healthy, stable skin before discontinuing supplementation. This stabilization step is critical to optimize the health of your skin and keep it clear for as long as possible, so don’t cheat yourself by quitting early. Learn more in this video.
For infants, you can dissolve the granules in hot water and administer them via oral syringe. But toddlers and young children can be picky when it comes to getting herbal supplements in them. You can try mixing the herbs with a small amount of their favorite food. Some older kids will take their herbs easily if you put them in gel caps. We highly recommend checking out all the tips and tricks to get your child to take herbs that we share in this video.

A few of our supplements have an Active version and a Stabilize version. Your pet’s skin needs extra support during active inflammation. For as long as there is redness, itching, swelling, or visible lesions, give the Active formula (this may be for one month to 6 months or longer). Once the skin is calm and appears normal, switch to the companion formula labeled Stabilize for 2 more months to promote healthy, stable skin before discontinuing supplementation. This stabilization step is critical to optimize the health of your pet’s skin and keep it clear for as long as possible, so don’t cheat them by giving up too early. Learn more in this video.
Add the concentrated granules directly to your pet’s meal twice per day. Introduce the supplement slowly: start with a small amount and gradually increase until you reach the therapeutic dose. For picky eaters, mix the herbs with a tasty topper:

- goat milk kefir
- unsweetened yogurt
- canned pumpkin

We offer formulations to address the most common patterns for the most common inflammatory skin diseases seen in clinical practice. Having options makes CMD products the closest thing to customized skincare.
Some of our herbal formulas (supplements) for chronic inflammatory skin conditions have an Active version and a Stabilize version. Your patient's skin needs extra support when there is active inflammation. During this phase of treatment, we employ more herbs to Clear Excess. For as long as there is redness, itching, swelling, or lesions, give the Active formula (this could be one month to 6+ months). Once the skin is calm and appears normal, switch your patient to the companion formula labeled Stabilize for 2 more months to promote healthy, stable skin before discontinuing internal herbal treatment. The approach during this phase of treatment is to Harmonize Qi & Blood (while still clearing some excess pathogenic factors to some degree). This stabilization step is critical to optimize the skin and keep it clear for as long as possible. Remind your patient of this so they don’t cheat themselves by quitting herbal treatment too early. Chinese Medicine Dermatology
Chinese Medicine Dermatology is a specialized branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine focused on skin health. It views the skin as a reflection of internal balance and uses carefully selected herbal formulations, both internal and topical, to support that balance. This specialty requires advanced training and has been practiced for centuries.
Western medicine focuses primarily on a reductionist view of biological structures and symptoms. Chinese Medicine looks at both biological function and energetic balance as they relate to the health of the whole living being. In dermatology, this means identifying patterns of energetic imbalance such as Heat, Dryness, Dampness, or Deficiency, then selecting special herbs to help restore balance rather than suppress symptoms.
These terms describe patterns of energetic imbalance observed in the skin. Redness may indicate Heat, weeping may suggest Dampness, and itching and scaling may point to Wind. These terms guide practitioners in choosing herbs with specific energetic actions. They are not Western diagnoses and do not mean there is something dangerous happening inside your body.
